WIL Success Story
The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center’s mission is to foster the creation and distribution of media and art that emphasizes underrepresented voices and perspectives, and to promote empowerment and expression through media and arts education. To that end we operate a Community Media and Arts Center out of the historic downtown Urbana post office building, which we purchased in 2005, located at 202 S. Broadway Ave., Urbana. The UCIMC is a central hub for creative activity in East Central Illinois. (ucimc.org)
Create awareness about building space, mission, and events with students at the University of Illinois.
Women in Leadership Team’s Solution
The team intended to increase IMC’s network of students and developed three deliverables to help achieve that goal. They: created a brochure to advertise the space and events; held a social media workshop for staff to help them use Instagram and Wechat; and set up in-person interviews and tours for various U of I student organizations at the IMC.
WIL interns facilitated connection between the IMC and students at the University of Illinois.
